Notes: “A collaboration between Quilt Artist Ellen Oppenheimer, Muralist Jaime Morgan and Peralta students Grades 1-5. Inspired by the painted houses of the Ndebele People of South Africa, students read ‘My Painted House, My Friendly Chicken, and Me’ by Maya Angelou and made their own symmetrical designs. This mural was made possible by the generous support of the City of Oakland, the Tides Foundation, the Peralta Parent & Teachers Group, and Kala Art Institute.
